See the proposal under Documentation on the above site.
On Tuesday March 3rd 2009, a number of residents of The Street, Tongham, Farnham, Surrey, received a letter – a copy of which can be viewed in the Documentation section - from Mr. Phil Mason, Land Planning Consultant, email: philmason@talktalk.net advising that an Australian petroleum company Mallegan Petroluem (N.T.) Pty Ltd http://www.magpet.com.au had submitted a planning application to Surrey County Council, for temporary permission to drill an exploratory borehole in the search for hydrocarbons at Manor Farm, Tongham, near Farnham, Surrey, a site plan of which can be viewed under Documentation.
Details can also now be viewed on Guildford Borough Council website:
http://www.guildford.gov.uk/DLDC_Version_2/acolnetcgi.gov?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeResultDetail&TheSystemkey=105593
Guildford Borough Council Planning Application Number 09/P/00376
Stop Press - Planning Application Reference No. has now been issued:
SCC Ref 2009/0034/PS Copy of Letter in Gallery.
The clock is ticking!!! Closing date for objections is 16th April 2009 This is barely 4 weeks from the issue date. Please start objecting now. See: How can you help? at foot of page. Please object to Surrey CC!
The proposed site lies in what many would consider an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and techinically falls within an Area of Great Landscape Value (at the moment that is!) with unspoilt views and a wealth of wildlife including deer, badgers, foxes, pheasants and numerous other species, not forgetting the aquatic life in the ponds immediately adjacent to where drilling would take place. These ponds are screened by trees to the north side, and their existance may not be that obvious at first. A herd of deer are also often seeing grazing and sitting immediately alongside the proposed site. Please see Gallery for very recent photographic evidence of this. Several residents bordering the proposed site also have badgers frequenting their gardens, along with the aforementioned foxes and pheasants. The site also lies only 400 to 500 metres from Tongham recreation Ground and residents of The Street, which is far too close for comfort!
So, please join us in taking action to prevent this unacceptable drilling and possible subsequent hydrocarbon extraction ever taking place, which would without doubt have an extremely detrimental effect on our local environment in many ways.
TADPOLE - Tongham Against Development Plans on Local Environment has therefore been formed as an action group to strongly oppose any such plans to ruin our local lanscape.
PLEASE VIEW THE GALLERY TO SEE PROPOSED SITE LOCATION AND THE CLOSE PROXIMITY TO TONGHAM RESIDENTS. THANK YOU!
STOP PRESS - A big THANK YOU to everyone who attended the public meeting at Tongham Community Centre (Poyle Road) at 7.30pm on the 23rd March 2009, where the oil company/consultant gave a presentation. You certainly came and gave us your support!
